A few months ago, a member of my local gaming group declared he was abandoning his short-lived interest in Deathwatch minis in favor of a Genestealer Cultists army. He had a few things to trade, namely a Codex, & a few minis, and the new conversion sprue that I'd been drooling over.
I'd recently bought a Patriarch & a Primus for cheap off ebay, but they were pretty low on my painting priority, so I offered them in trade. He gladly accepted & offered me all but a single Deathwatch mini in exchange (about $65 worth of swag) for the two HQ minis.
Like I said, I'd gotten a pretty good deal for the pair, & it didn't feel like a fair trade, so I offered to paint one of them to help even the score. He picked the Patriarch.
He wanted the color scheme to match fairly close to the one on the website & I did my best. I tell you what though. There are some minis that are an outright pain to paint. I disliked this guy for 85% of the time I was painting him. It only came together for me during the last few washes, but after that I was happy with him. The gamer was too, & he was happy to report it's the centerpiece for his army & has been doing a good job of wrecking opponents at the local tourneys as well.

Day 26: Tyrant Guard
Here's an old-school Tyrant Guard. I remember buying it back in 2005 right after ended my enlistment in the Navy.
Similar to my other Tyranid, he's painted in an orange and black scheme, like my home college team (my Eldar use the same scheme as the college just down the road)
The orange took a while longer than I'd intended, so I applied the black rather hastily to try & compensate. It's not an overly detailed mini, but it is big.
It just occurred to me that I have 4 large-based minis scheduled in this last week of painting (I've got two termis left).
In the last two years of this challenge I've only ever completed one large-based mini (although he wasn't actually all that large), meanwhile this year alone I'll have finished 6.
Apparently I back-loaded this year's challenge a bit.

Death from the Skies cover
Loraziel over at Dakka Dakka posted this shot of the rumored Death from the Skies flier compendium.
There are some conflicting rumors (surprise surprise) about this release.
initial rumor was that there would be a number of new fliers including
A new Tau flier
A new Eldar flier
The Dark Eldar Voidraven Bomber
and a new Tyranid unit called the Harpy.
meanwhile there's another rumor saying that this is just an update that brings all the current fliers in line with 6th edition rules (plus adding the DE Bomber). I'd obviously see some new fliers, but only time will tell.

Day 17: Hormagaunt
This was to be a test mini for a bigger project, however I quickly discovered that orange is a pain in the A$$, so I scrapped it, and this guy was left unfinished until yesterday.
First, a little context, Here in Oregon there are two major rival universities. Oregon State University (Colors: Black & Orange. Best well known for a mascot that's a common sexual slang & not living up to their athletic potential), and the University of Oregon (Colors: Green & Yellow. Best well known for having more outfits than a Kardashian, & access to anything they want from Nike).
A long while back I entertained the idea of creating a school spirit diorama for OSU. The concept would be an overwhelming group of Orange & Black nids "Zerg Rushing" their way towards a faltering group of Green & Yellow Eldar. Well, like I mentioned, painting orange is like a war of attrition. So this guy got shuffled to the back of the mini cabinet.
It's worth noting though that this diorama is also the basis for my current Eldar scheme.
